Video of armed assault on Corrections Officer..

We are locked in 60 to 1 in direct supervision. This could happen here...and they want to give you the same raise as non-essential clerks.

This type of incident is a reminder of what can happen in our work place. They may be few and far between but it only takes one incident to create permanent long term effects for people involved, the correctional facility and hopefully can make future changes for dealing with these kind of problems. The Warden that was speaking said that this is how correctional facilities are run in many areas. This is not a response on how to address the incident. He shows no compassion for his employee, He takes no responsibility as the Warden of the facility. He offers no direction to improve conditions to lessen this type of situation happening in the future. He sounds irresponsible for not ensuring his employees safety under his command, denying accountability to rectify the problem when he is the head of the facility, and dismissing the act like it's no big deal. He is a disgrace to the uniform.

All so (no chastising intended)don't use non-essential employees pay as a comparison to essential employees pay. Use other essential employees pay around the counties, states and federal for fair comparisons.

I'll try to straighten this out without hurting the feelings of the hard working Hennepin County clerks, who are also the lowest paid in the metro area for their job class.

There are supposed to be separate negotiations for essential (detention/911) and non-essential (clerical) job classes. The clerical can strike, the essential cannot.

Yet, during every negotiation Hennepin quickly settles with the AFSCME clerical, lumping the AFSCME essential ACF unit with them, then sticks the rest of us with an offer "settled" by the non-essential group, claiming "the pattern is set."

The essential when going to arbitration is supposed to be considered as if we are on strike.

The correctional units are supposed to be compensated for the threat of assault, and we even have a separate retirement because of that. So when you see the comparison it's not to slight the clerks, It is to point out the bogus negotiating tricks of Hennepin. Forcing the essential units to accept an offer settled by units different than our own.
