Perspective/Priorities
$2,000 a year in additional compensation for the Hennepin County Board, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman and Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek-No problem!
$417,000 for ONE vehicle for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office-No problem!
$25,000,000 CASH for downtown office building-No problem!
Modest raise for Hennepin County Detention Deputies who have had no raise since 2008 and now are dead last in the area for starting wages in their field? DENIED!
*The MNPEA asked for a 1.5% Market Adjustment, a 1.5% Cost of Living Raise and Steps for 2012..The total increase for the Detention Deputy bargaining unit would have come to only $143,298.

Wade, we can all get an extra $2,000 a year (increased from previous amount of $1,500) from the leave for fitness program. The elected officials do not accrue any leave time - that is why they made this program for them. They still need receipts to get reimbursed.
The difference is when we use it, it comes from our accrued sick time balance.
They can get gym memberships, buy bikes, sporting goods, etc, turn in a receipt and the county pays for it. That's a $2,000 a year perk.
When we turn in receipts WE pay for it from our sick time balance. Give us the same benefit. Let me turn in $2,000 of receipts for the county to cover at no cost to me.
The elected officials do not accrue vacation/sick or pto like we do. Respectfully,,, I think this is a weak argument.
A Hennepin County Commisioner made %97,997 in 2011
County Attorney Mike Freeman made $149,483
Henepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek made $149,483 in 2011
While they may not (and I/m not sure) accrue sick time, they can call in sick without losing a dime, go on vacation,and get perks like cars and free parking.
So again, the $2,000 was another perk, a $2,000 increase in play money.
