This is from a post by Hennepin County Commissioner Angela Conley. This resolution was passed in March. (This was just brought to our attention.)
It's nice to see the exception for "Detention Deputies serving directly within the Adult Detention Center" for hiring but not OT!
This appears to be a slap in the face of the HCSO for providing law enforcement during the ICE surge and backfilling in Minneapolis for the very short staffed Minneapolis Police Department.
As a taxpayer I firmly support staying within a budget, but this same Commissioner Conely has many public posts wanting to provide Medicare and food benefits to non-citizens. Those should be the first cut!
So if Minneapolis is short on a busy day or night and the Sheriff's Office is hitting overtime do they go home?
Or if the jail is understaffed do they release inmates? Leave them locked in? The County Commissioners should leave the operation of the Office to the Sheriff.
The citizens of Minneapolis are also Hennepin County residents and taxpayers. They deserve protection.
