KSTP 5 is reporting-
Two Minnesota Department of Corrections(MNDOC) correctional staff sustained minor injuries after an inmate used an improvised weapon against them Saturday.
The MNDOC said the incident occurred at the Rush City facility on Saturday.
There an inmate failed a metal detector test, prompting correctional staff to initiate a search. The inmate reportedly then used the weapon against staff members, inflicting minor injuries.
DOC commissioner Paul Schnell said he was grateful the staff were safe.
“This incident underscores the unpredictable and dangerous conditions our correctional staff face every day,” said Schnell. “We are grateful for the swift and professional response of staff to bring this situation under control.
The injured staffers were evaluated by medical professionals before being released. The DOC is investigating the incident to see if they should press charges.
