From a CO standpoint if an arresting agency brings in a person on suspected DWI and that person has difficulty standing and talking that's par for the course. Generally a nurse at some point looks at that person. The lawsuit alleges the staff was indifferent. Let's see where this goes. Full Story

The inmate died after a fight with his cellmate, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.

HCSO hires 99 Detention Deputies!

A record-setting swearing-in ceremony for the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is leading to a fully staffed agency and a major slowdown of millions spent to move inmates due to staffing struggles at the jail. 

On Tuesday night, 28 licensed deputies and 99 detention deputies were sworn in by Sheriff Dawanna Witt — she said during the ceremony that brings the agency to 900 personnel. 

“There were a lot of people who thought that we couldn’t get to this point,” Sheriff Witt told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. “Here we are, fully staffed with still room to grow.”

The agency’s staffing shortage in the jail created unique challenges, including the relocation of hundreds of inmates to other jails.
